We’re all surrounded by challenges, whether big or small. This week, I found myself reflecting on how we approach them.
No matter who you are or where you are, there will always be problems.
The key lies in recognising that we have a choice in the type of problems we face.
This perspective shift has been eye-opening for me. It’s not about trying to eliminate every problem but about focusing on those that contribute to our growth.
By reframing challenges this way, I’ve found it easier to manage stress and keep perspective when things feel overwhelming.
The Reality of Choosing Your Problems
For example, when we moved home a few years back, it was pretty crazy! It was a flurry of packing and moving boxes piling up around the tiny house with two kids under 5. Initially, the mess and the task ahead (moving home!) felt like one more stressor I didn’t need.
But then I remembered: this “problem” is something I actively chose. We decided to move to create more space for our family, especially with winter coming.
In the past, we felt cramped, and our family needed more room to grow. Rather than staying stagnant, we acted on that need. Now, looking around, I see the current packing chaos not as a burden but as a stepping stone to something better.
This problem is an indicator of growth and progress—something to be grateful for.
Shifting from Resentment to Gratitude
If I had to choose, I’d rather have the stress of moving than the feeling of stagnation we experienced before.
Choosing problems that align with our goals allows us to face challenges with gratitude rather than resentment.
Reflecting on this brought a surprising sense of calm.
Embrace the Problems You’ve Created
Take a moment to consider: What challenges have you chosen in your own life that represent growth?
Which of these “problems” could you reframe as a sign of progress?
This week, try to appreciate the problems you’ve created. They’re signs of the life you’re building and the growth you’re embracing.
